Chord Electronics builds a Google boombox you can't buy, but wish you could

Do you find yourself uninspired by the staid and predictable aesthetics of today's boomboxes? Well, if you dig the red, yellow, green, and blue look, the folks at Chord Electronics have delivered a Google-fied custom portable stereo. Chord pimped out its Chordette Carry -- which has Bluetooth connectivity, USB, optical and digital coax inputs, a four input preamp, and a 40W amp -- with a Google-approved-and-ordered paint job. We don't know if the Mountain View version has the exact same innards as the standard Carry or what exactly El Goog plans to do with this little sonic gem, but we do know that it isn't going on sale to the public. Too bad, that Google branding would have given us mad cred on the streets, yo.Chord Electronics builds a Google boombox you can't buy, but wish you could originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 01 Mar 2011 09:24:00 EDT. Visualized: Honeycomb statue sweetens up Google's campus

Well, it didn't exactly make the most timely appearance, but Google's statue-makers have now finally delivered a monument to the latest Android release: Honeycomb. As you can see, they've also gone the extra mile and actually included our friend the Android robot this time around, although it seems like it's about to come out on the losing end of its encounter with that giant bee.

Offshoring Data: You Can Never Be Too Careful

The news is full of stories of leaked information these days. Whether it's state secrets released by WikiLeaks or a product release slipping out early from a careless team member, information is supremely difficult to control in today's world of instant online communications.

Torus is an impressive 3D Tetris game powered by HTML5

As far as Tetris goes, most variations look quite similar. You're usually looking at a "wall" of bricks directly from the front. Torus takes that notion and throws it away; as you might have guessed from the name (or screenshot), this Tetris clone is played on a ring-like 3D surface.

You rotate the ring itself with the arrow keys, while a Tetris-like piece slowly (excruciatingly slowly, in fact) descends from the top. As soon as you make a solid line, it disappears.

Not all pieces are Tetris-like; some of them wouldn't really work with a regular Tetris game but are a good fit for Torus' 3D format.

Torus is ideal for playing at the office, because it has absolutely no soundtrack. The game is dead-quiet. It's also very very slow (slow enough for me to mention it twice in one post) so you can safely look away for a moment and then keep playing. Also, as soon as the game loses focus, it automatically pauses.

Bottom line: It's an impressive demo of the power of HTML5; if it were a bit faster, it would have some serious addictive potential.Torus is an impressive 3D Tetris game powered by HTML5 originally appeared on Download Squad on Thu, 17 Feb 2011 17:30:00 EST.
